REVIEW: Mwg Zinc II Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone

This is my review of the MWg Zinc II, a GSM-based Windows Mobile Professional Smartphone. It has a 500 mhz Samsung CPU, 64 MB of RAM, a 2.8 inch 320 x 240 resolution touch screen, GPS, and a slide-out keyboard. It’s a quad-band GSM (850/ 900/1800/1900 Mhz) and tri-band HSDPA 3G phone (850/ 1900/ 2100 Mhz). It’s currently selling for 9 USD (at the time of this writing). Oh okay. So if I were to buy this phone and put my SIM card in it, do you think my myFaves would appear on the phone? Would you know

  2. ThoughtsMedia says:

I’m not sure if MyFaves are controlled at the network level or if they’re on your SIM – but it’s not like it’s hard to program a few numbers onto this. :-)

Keyboard is flat and its bulky, good if you like that sort of thing.

Who is going to be the carrier of this phone? i’m with AT&T…

  5. ThoughtsMedia says:

This phone won’t come out on a carrier – it’s sold unlocked and can be used on any GSM carrier, which includes AT&T.

  6. CaptainScarlet2006 says:

Thanks,Jason, the problem with that is that without a carrier you can get a lower price since this phone is Xpensive.I saw the price in $549.00.

  7. ThoughtsMedia says:

Yes, that’s exactly the problem – you’re buying the phone without a carrier subsidy, and this is how much these phones really cost. :-) But if you want to use a phone of your choice instead of what the carrier offers you, this is the price you pay.

does it include internet and messaging?

  9. si1entmage says:

is the Atom V better or this?

  10. ThoughtsMedia says:

Yes, it comes with Internet Explorer Mobile and an IM application – though you can install others if you don’t like the default.
    - Jason

  11. ThoughtsMedia says:

I don’t think the Atom V has a slide-out keyboard, does it? So it’s a completely different class of device.

How is the camera quality when taking still pictures and videos? Thank you.

  13. ThoughtsMedia says:

I’ve given this away as a prize in a contest, so I can’t answer that question unfortunately.

  14. STR8MARGATE says:

    2 questions
    1. is the slide out fluid, like is it a smooth slide out

    2. i wanted the xperia but i found this for about $400
do you think i should go with this?

  15. STR8MARGATE says:

oh also can i install touchflo on it?

  16. ThoughtsMedia says:

Technically? Yes. But since HTC doesn’t sell TouchFlo 3D, that’s where this conversation has to end. :-)
    - Jason

  17. ThoughtsMedia says:

Yes, the slide-out action is fairly smooth. As for whether or not you should buy it, that’s your decision to make, not mine.

  19. bugzy02 says:

hey i wanted to know like would i be able to visit sites like facebook and youtube and watch videos and see pictures ?

  20. ThoughtsMedia says:

Facebook has a decent mobile site, but YouTube’s mobile site requires Flash I think, which this doesn’t support.

  21. los88sil says:

does it have a head phone jack? what kind

  22. si1entmage says:

umm i got this phone.. but can anyone tell me how to set it such that it does not automatically reject calls? i have this problems of the phone auto rejecting calls after 10s or so..

  23. ThoughtsMedia says:

It shouldn’t automatically reject calls. You’re saying that if you have it sitting on a table, and someone calls you, it will immediately reject the call? There might be something deep in the settings related to that, but nothing comes to mind. If I were you, I’d hard reset the phone (i.e.: wipe it out), then before you change anything at all, try calling the phone and see what happens.

  24. WhosWreckin says:

You said that you were on the Rogers SIM, is this correct? If so were able to connect to the internet through the 3g.

  25. ThoughtsMedia says:

Yes, that’s correct – it worked great!
